At BuildPalestine, we use the word liberation intentionally. It is not a metaphor, nor a slogan. It is a living, breathing compass that guides our work—and our imagination.
For Palestinians, liberation begins with the end of occupation, apartheid, and siege. It begins with the right to return, the right to grieve, the right to live without fear. But our vision of liberation doesn’t stop at survival. We are building toward a future where Palestinians not only endure, but thrive.
Liberation, for us, is locally led. It’s in the hands of the people who know their communities best—those who are closest to the challenges and closest to the solutions. It looks like a teacher designing a curriculum for displaced children. A farmer reviving ancestral agricultural practices to protect food sovereignty. A tech innovator solving problems with dignity, not dependency. These are not just acts of entrepreneurship; they are acts of resistance.
We believe social entrepreneurship is a pathway to liberation—not because it replaces political struggle, but because it complements it. It asserts that Palestinians can and must build the future on our own terms, despite the systems that seek to destroy us. It challenges the cycle of foreign aid dependency with sustainability, creativity, and care.
We have seen the devastating effects of genocide in Gaza and escalating repression across all of Palestine. And still, the work continues. Social entrepreneurs continue to show up—for their people, for their land, for the future.
Liberation is not just an endpoint—it is a practice. And at BuildPalestine, we are committed to practicing it every day: through solidarity, through trust in our communities, and through radical belief in what Palestinians can build when given the resources, autonomy, and support to lead.
